After a hesitant start, I am surprised and pleased that, in retirement, I can produce some work that I am happy with and is admired by friend and family. I am certain this would  not have happened without Harriet's patient encouragement and tuition and this new-found interest has given me much enjoyment.

An unexpected benefit of the art lessons is that I now look at the landscape - especially trees in winter - and buildings in a new light and with greater pleasure.

Also, my enjoyment and appreciation of works of art has been greatly enhanced. On my visits to galleries, I now look at pictures in even greater wonder than previously.

I am now looking forward to working with oils

I am relatively new to painting, having only had a brief introduction to veil painting some 25 years ago! Then, recently, a friend encouraged me to join the watercolour class she was taking with Harriet.

It has been challenging to paint a scene that I don't see; painting between and around what I would like to have appear on the page! But I am glad I have persevered. The class is great -- Harriet is very encouraging and always available to assist, and everyone is friendly and supportive of each other's efforts.

I now feel inspired to explore this (negative) technique further. In the summer I might try my hand with pastels ; in the autumn we will begin using oils. I am enjoying trying out different mediums, which on my own I might never have done.
